Jaanika

Founder & Pet Guardian at Vurruvalve

I come from a small village in Viljandimaa and spent a large part of my childhood at my grandparents’ home next door. They had a wide variety of animals – from horses and cows to dogs, cats, and chickens. This is where my affection and empathy for animals first took root, and they have been a part of my everyday life ever since. I have also gained invaluable experience through volunteering with organisations dedicated to animal welfare.

At home, I have a cat named Potter. With one eye, three legs and no teeth, he is the perfect example of pure joy for life. His heart is so big that it teaches humility. My husband and I are deeply grateful for him and are committed to giving him the best life possible.

Vurruvalve was born out of need, a dream, and a heartfelt wish. A need for a trustworthy pet sitter, a dream of working with animals, and a wish to support caring pet owners. Personal experience showed me how difficult it can be to find an experienced sitter you can truly trust – especially when it comes to pets with special needs. For me, it was essential that care takes place in the pet’s own home, in a familiar and safe environment. That’s why I decided to put my knowledge and experience to use and contributing to a more caring pet culture in Estonia.

I prefer an active lifestyle and enjoy a variety of sports. That’s why, for more energetic dogs, I’m happy to offer a hike or a jogging session instead of a regular walk.

Melissa Lisel

Dog Whisperer & Caregiver

I have been an animal lover my entire life, with dogs holding a particularly special place in my heart. In 2024, I developed a strong desire to better understand and support dogs. This led me to Nordic Dog Trainers, where I am currently studying dog behavior, body language, and emotional balance under experienced professionals in the field.

Eleryn

Pet Companion & Caregiver

I’ve had animals in my life for almost as long as I can remember. As a child, both my sister and I had our own parrot, which was one of my first experiences learning to care for another living being. I truly believe that animals have much to teach us – empathy, patience, and unconditional love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vurruvalve provides pet sitting, which can include cat care, dog care, dog walking, feeding a small pet and cleaning its cage, or something else entirely. I emphasize that I only care for pets in their own home environment. This means I do not board pets at my place while you are away, but instead visit them in your home. This approach minimizes stress for your pet.

Additional services include key exchange, meaning the sitter can collect the keys in a separate visit before the care period or return them after the care period. We also offer administering deworming medication to cats (the medication must be provided by the owner) and cat nail trimming. These services are carried out and charged only if they can be performed safely and in a stress-free manner for the cat.

Pet sitting service covers:

  • Free Meet-and-Greet
  • Visiting your pet in their own home (1 hour unless agreed otherwise);
  • Engaging with the pet (playing with a cat, walking a dog, brushing, administering necessary medication, etc.);
  • feeding the pet and changing the water according to the owner's instructions;
  • cleaning the litter box, cage, or other designated area as per the owner's guidance;
  • sending updates in the preferred format (photos, videos, and a written summary);
  • carrying out small additional tasks upon agreement, such as watering plants or emptying the mailbox;
  • other necessary tasks previously agreed upon with the owner.

A 24-hour care means that the sitter stays at your home for the duration of the service and takes care of your pet(s) according to your instructions. The price includes feeding your pet, administering medications or supplements, play, walks, and any other agreed-upon tasks. In addition, the sitter ensures that your home is left in the same condition as it was upon arrival. If needed, we can also assist with small household tasks, such as watering plants or receiving parcels. Of course, we provide the owner with regular updates in a suitable format (photos, videos, and written reports) about how the care is going.

The price for 24-hour care reflects both professional pet care and full responsibility for your home and your pet’s well-being. During this period, the caregiver is away from their own home and family and dedicates themselves entirely to the care and well-being of your pet.

To build mutual trust, I offer a free meet-and-greet for new clients. This means I’ll visit your home at a prearranged time before the pet-sitting period to get to know you and your pet(s). We’ll also discuss everything needed to ensure your pet feels happy and comfortable while you’re away.

Yes. Longer visits and pricing are always agreed individually to ensure the best and most suitable solution for your pet.

Vurruvalve operates in Viljandi, Tallinn, and Harju County.

I primarily care for small pets like cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, and birds. However, if you have a more unusual pet—such as reptiles or fish—feel free to reach out! As long as I have the necessary information and instructions, I’m open to helping. The main focus is on meeting the pet's needs. If you’re traveling or away from home for several days, everything should be arranged in advance to ensure the pet's well-being throughout the entire period. For example, dogs typically require more attention and engagement than just 1 hour a day.

For dogs, an additional fee may apply for a second dog, as the level of care and attention required increases. The extra charge depends on the individual needs of the dogs. For cats, no additional fee is applied, care is provided under the same conditions for multiple cats.

Yes. I’m happy to care for pets that require medication, injections, or other special treatments. It’s important that your pet is friendly and that I receive clear, detailed instructions from you to ensure proper care.

The meet and greet is primarily about getting to know each other better. Additionally, we sign a contract with all new clients, outlining the rights and responsibilities of both parties. If you still feel unsure after the meeting, it’s absolutely okay to decide not to proceed with the service.

No. I only provide care in your pet’s own home. I firmly believe that staying in a familiar environment is the safest and least stressful option for pets. With their usual surroundings and a caring sitter, they can remain relaxed and content while you’re away.

Yes. If the pet is not aggressive or dangerous, but simply needs a calm approach or more mindful handling, we can usually find a suitable solution. An important part of this process is the meet and greet visit, where we assess the animal’s behavior and agree with the owner on all necessary conditions to ensure that the care period is safe and pleasant for everyone.

I have many years of shelter experience, which has given me the opportunity to work with animals of very different personalities and behaviors. I am especially experienced with cats, but I am continuously learning and developing my understanding of dog behavior as well. In addition, Vurruvalve works closely with certified dog behavior specialist Helina (www.koeraarmastus.org. I highly recommend contacting her if you need guidance or support in understanding, modifying, or preventing behavior issues in dogs.

Calvin and Kenzo immediately recognized Jaanika as a friend during their first meeting – they sniffed her out and even accepted pets. This gave us complete confidence because animals are excellent judges of character. Jaanika has always inspired trust in me as well. She’s warm, reliable, and visibly responsible.

I especially appreciate the photos she always sends of the boys – no one else does it quite like her!

- Mari-Liis

Jaanika is irreplaceable for our family! Our cat is not very social and tends to get stressed, which made traveling difficult. Jaanika is extremely attentive to signs of stress and knows how to respond. Her updates and photos during our trips are such a comforting bonus.

We’re so thankful to have met her and can trust her fully with our cat.

- Liisa

We’ve trusted Jaanika to care for our cat multiple times, whether for short trips or longer holidays. She always does a great job, ensuring our cat is well-fed, entertained, and happy.

Knowing Jaanika is looking after him gives us great peace of mind. Highly recommend her!

- Alex

Balancing work, family, and other responsibilities often makes it hard to find time for a long walk with our dog. Jaanika always steps in joyfully – not only walking Lota but sometimes even taking her for a jog, which suits our energetic beagle perfectly.

We’re incredibly grateful to have someone we can trust with our dog!

- Teet

Jaanika has a special vibe with animals and truly understands them. It’s evident in how she cares for her own cat and how she’s volunteered to help stray cats. She knows how to read an animal and respond to their needs.

I trust Sammy with her completely, knowing he’s in the best possible hands!

- Kady

Jaanika is a very effective caretaker even for animals with a more complicated past — she handles different challenges with creativity and confidence. She is highly empathetic while also being appropriately direct.

You can trust her with both your house keys and your pet with complete peace of mind.

Additional services

€10 per service (one-time fee)
Additional services include:
• key exchange
• nail trimming for cat(s)
• administering deworming medication to cat(s)
Key exchange means that the caretaker collects the keys separately before the care period or returns them afterward. No additional fee applies if keys are handed over during the introductory visit or delivered by the owner. Deworming medication (to be provided by the owner) and nail trimming are only carried out, and charged for, if they can be done safely and without causing stress to the cat.

In-home pet sitting

€30/visit (up to 1h)
€85/24 hours
We offer pet care exclusively in the pet’s own home. We firmly believe that a familiar home environment is the safest and least stressful option for animals. When the owner is away, a familiar space and a trusted caretaker help the pet feel calm and secure.

For daytime visits, it is possible to agree on a longer care duration or a custom solution based on your needs. The price for 24-hour care includes professional pet sitting services as well as full responsibility for the well-being of your pet and your home throughout the entire care period. During overnight care, the caretaker stays in your home and looks after your pet(s) strictly according to your instructions.

The price includes interaction with the pet, feeding, administering medication or supplements, walks, and all other agreed-upon tasks. The caretaker also ensures that your home is left in the same condition as upon arrival. If needed, we can assist with small household tasks such as watering plants or accepting courier deliveries. Naturally, we provide regular updates on how the care is going, in a format that suits you (photos, videos, or written updates).

Meet and greet

FREE
To build mutual trust, the caretaker will visit you and your pet(s) at an agreed time before the care period begins. During this meeting, we can assess whether the service is suitable for the pet, the owner, and the caretaker. It is also an opportunity to discuss all important details, go over care-related locations in the home, share instructions, and, if desired, hand over the keys. If it becomes clear during the introductory visit that the service does not feel suitable for any reason, both parties are free to decline further cooperation.

This led me to Nordic Dog Trainers, where I am currently studying dog behavior, body language, and emotional balance under experienced professionals in the field.

In my work with dogs, I place great importance on an ethical approach, understanding, and patience.

I decided to become a Vurruvalvur out of a deep love for animals and a desire to help dogs feel as safe and secure as possible, especially in stressful situations. As an added bonus, working as a Vurruvalvur allows me to closely observe and deepen my understanding of canine communication.
